PCOS Is Now PMOS. Why This Name Change Matters
A major international medical consensus has officially renamed PCOS to PMOS which stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.
For many of us working in integrative fertility and hormone health, this shift makes sense.
For years, PCOS has been treated mostly as an ovulation or fertility issue. But anyone living with it knows it is much more than that. It can affect energy, weight, blood sugar, inflammation, mood, skin, sleep, hormones, and long term health.

At Acubalance Wellness Centre, we have long approached PCOS and now PMOS as a whole body condition that requires a multi system approach focused on addressing the underlying causes.
Medications like Letrozole and Clomiphene can help stimulate ovulation and may play an important role for some patients trying to conceive. But they do not address the deeper metabolic, inflammatory, hormonal, or mitochondrial imbalances that often drive PMOS in the first place.
You can force ovulation without necessarily improving overall health or egg quality.
That is why this name change matters.
Hopefully PMOS will help more people receive support earlier, even if they are not currently trying to conceive. Too many people are told to simply go on the pill, lose weight, or come back later when they want to get pregnant, while the root issues continue underneath the surface.
Our integrative approach focuses on improving the terrain underneath the symptoms through:
• An anti inflammatory low glycemic nutrition plan
• Acupuncture to support hormone regulation and nervous system balance
• Chinese herbal medicine
• Targeted supplements
• Low level laser therapy to support circulation, inflammation balance, and cellular energy
• Stress reduction and nervous system support

The goal is not just to create a cycle.
The goal is to improve health, resilience, hormone signaling, metabolic balance, and fertility outcomes while supporting long term wellbeing.
The new PMOS terminology better reflects what this condition truly is and hopefully marks a shift toward more complete and compassionate care.
