Overview
At Acubalance, we believe healthy, radiant skin comes from supporting both internal health and external skin rejuvenation. Advanced skin care and aesthetics is about more than simply treating wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, hair thinning, or other visible skin concerns. How your skin looks is often influenced by what is happening beneath the surface.
Hormones, inflammation, oxidative stress, stress, sleep, metabolic health, mitochondrial function, and overall wellness all play important roles in how your skin ages, heals, and regenerates. That is why we take an integrative approach to skin health and healthy aging. We combine evidence-informed aesthetic treatments with a whole-body medical lens to support natural-looking skin rejuvenation and long-term skin health.
At Acubalance, our goal is not perfection or artificial-looking results. Our goal is to help you feel good and look good. We help support internal health so you can feel more vibrant, resilient, and well from the inside out, while also offering advanced skin treatments that help your outer appearance better reflect how healthy and vibrant you feel on the inside.
Whether your goals involve prevention, rejuvenation, acne scars, pigmentation, hair thinning, or menopause-related skin changes, our team is here to help support healthier skin from the inside out and outside in.
Why Skin Changes With Age

As we age, our skin naturally changes. Over time, the body gradually produces less collagen and elastin, two essential proteins that help keep skin firm, smooth, resilient, and youthful. Collagen provides structure and strength to the skin, while elastin gives your skin the ability to stretch and bounce back. When collagen and elastin decline, the skin becomes thinner, less firm, and less able to recover from daily stress and repeated facial movement.
Skin cell turnover also slows with age. This means older skin typically repairs more slowly and may appear duller, rougher, drier, or less radiant over time. Natural hydration also declines, which can make fine lines and wrinkles more visible. Many people begin noticing changes such as:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Thinning or crepey skin
- Reduced firmness and elasticity
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven texture
- Slower healing
- Dull or tired-looking skin
Hormonal changes can further accelerate these changes. This becomes especially noticeable during perimenopause and menopause, when declining estrogen can contribute to reduced collagen production, thinner skin, dryness, and more visible signs of aging. Research suggests women can lose up to approximately 30% of skin collagen in the first 5 years after menopause, followed by an ongoing decline of roughly 2% per year thereafter.1 These changes are a normal part of aging, but how quickly they happen can vary significantly from person to person.
How your skin looks is often influenced by what is happening beneath the surface. Hormones, inflammation, oxidative stress, stress, sleep, metabolic health, and mitochondrial function all play important roles in how your skin ages, heals, and regenerates.
Biological Aging, Hormones, and Inflammaging
Chronological age is simply the number of years you have been alive. Biological age reflects how well your cells, tissues, and body are actually aging. This is one reason two people of the same age can look very different. One 45-year-old may look vibrant, youthful, and healthy, while another 45-year-old may appear significantly older, with more wrinkles, thinner skin, age spots, dullness, or reduced elasticity, despite having the same chronological age.
At Acubalance, we believe this difference is often driven by accelerated biological aging. A major contributor to accelerated biological aging is what we call inflammaging. Inflammaging refers to chronic low-grade inflammation that gradually accelerates cellular damage and aging throughout the body. Over time, this chronic inflammatory burden can contribute to accelerated collagen breakdown, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired cellular repair, and faster visible skin aging. It can also contribute to premature degenerative disease and premature fertility decline.
Factors that can accelerate biological aging and inflammaging include:
- Chronic stress and elevated cortisol
- Poor sleep
- Hormonal imbalance
- Metabolic dysfunction and blood sugar dysregulation
- Oxidative stress
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Chronic inflammation
- Smoking
- Environmental toxins
- Sedentary lifestyle
This is why skin health is never just about the skin. The skin is your body’s largest organ, and what happens internally often shows up externally. At Acubalance, we have been helping patients address many of these root causes since 2000 through an integrative approach that supports healthier aging, healthier skin, and better overall resilience.
The Acubalance Difference: A Whole-Body Lens on Skin Health
At Acubalance, we take a different approach to advanced skin care and aesthetics. Our goal is not simply to treat wrinkles or chase cosmetic perfection. Our goal is to help you feel good and look good by supporting healthier skin and healthier aging.
Since 2000, we have helped patients optimize health through integrative care, with particular expertise in fertility, hormone health, perimenopause, menopause, inflammation, and healthy aging. This gives us a unique perspective on skin health and aging. We understand that the skin often reflects what is happening inside the body — hormones, inflammation, stress, sleep, metabolic health, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and nervous system regulation all influence how your skin looks, feels, and ages over time.
That is why we do not take a cosmetic-only approach. Acubalance is an integrative medical clinic that combines advanced aesthetic treatments with a whole-body medical lens. We also invest in advanced technologies, including premium systems such as the SkinPen Precision Elite for microneedling and advanced photobiomodulation systems such as our GigaLaser, which combines LED and laser diode technology. At Acubalance, we aim for natural-looking results that help you look healthy, vibrant, refreshed, and like yourself.

Advanced Skin Treatments at Acubalance
At Acubalance, we offer advanced skin treatments designed to support healthy aging, skin rejuvenation, and natural-looking results. Each treatment works differently, and many patients benefit from combining therapies as part of a personalized treatment plan.
Microneedling with SkinPen Precision Elite
Microneedling is a minimally invasive collagen induction treatment that creates thousands of precise microchannels in the skin to stimulate your body’s natural healing response. At Acubalance, we use the SkinPen Precision Elite, an advanced microneedling system designed to improve skin texture, tone, acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, and overall skin quality by stimulating collagen and elastin production. Cosmetic Botox
Botox is a neuromodulator treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expression. It helps soften lines such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet while preserving natural movement and facial balance. Our goal is always natural-looking results so you look refreshed, not frozen. Learn more about cosmetic Botox →
Photobiomodulation (PBM) — Red Light Therapy
Photobiomodulation, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or red light therapy, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular energy production, support healing, reduce inflammation, and improve tissue repair. At Acubalance, we use advanced photobiomodulation systems such as our GigaLaser to support skin rejuvenation, collagen remodelling, healing, and recovery. Learn more about photobiomodulation →
Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture
Cosmetic facial acupuncture combines traditional acupuncture principles with modern skin rejuvenation goals. This treatment supports circulation, collagen production, skin vitality, and nervous system regulation while promoting a natural, whole-body approach to healthy aging. Unlike treatments that focus only on the face, cosmetic facial acupuncture also supports internal balance, helping reduce stress and improve overall resilience, which may positively influence skin health over time.
It is also one of our preferred skin rejuvenation treatments for patients who are trying to conceive, undergoing IVF, or preparing for frozen embryo transfer, since Botox is generally not recommended during these stages. Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how much cosmetic facial acupuncture can improve skin tone, facial tension, and areas such as the neck, where signs of aging often become especially noticeable. Common Skin Concerns We Help Address
At Acubalance, we support patients with a wide range of skin and healthy-aging concerns. Some patients come to us looking for prevention and maintenance. Others are seeking support for visible changes that have become more noticeable with age, stress, hormonal shifts, pregnancy, perimenopause, or menopause. Common concerns we help address include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (11’s)
- Crow’s feet
- Lip lines
- Thinning or crepey skin
- Loss of firmness and elasticity
- Sagging skin
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Uneven texture
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scars
- Pigmentation and sun damage (including some cases of melasma)
- Dry or dehydrated skin
- Neck aging and crepey neck skin
- Aging hands and thinning skin on the hands
- Menopause-related skin changes
- Hair thinning and scalp health
- Surgical scars, including C-section scars
Many women first notice accelerated skin aging during perimenopause and menopause, when hormonal shifts can contribute to thinner, drier, less resilient skin. Others notice skin changes during periods of high stress, poor sleep, burnout, or metabolic imbalance. Regardless of where you are in your health journey, our goal is to help identify the underlying factors contributing to your skin concerns and create a personalized treatment plan to support healthier skin and healthier aging.
Our Inside Out and Outside In Approach
Many aesthetic clinics focus primarily on improving the appearance of the skin from the outside. At Acubalance, we believe the best results often come from supporting both internal health and external skin rejuvenation. This is what we mean by treating the skin from the inside out and outside in.
Sometimes the most effective skin treatment is not just a skin treatment. Sometimes improving skin health starts by supporting the internal factors that influence how your skin heals, repairs, and ages.
Inside Out
Internal factors such as inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic imbalance, hormonal changes, chronic stress, elevated cortisol, poor sleep, and nervous system dysregulation can all accelerate biological aging and negatively affect skin health. These internal imbalances may contribute to accelerated collagen breakdown, impaired repair, dullness, dryness, inflammation, and faster visible skin aging.
To help support these root causes, we may recommend therapies such as acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, supplements, nutritional IV therapy, NAD+ injections, hormone support, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle and nutrition. These therapies help support healthier internal physiology at the cellular and systems level, which may positively influence skin health and healthy aging.
Outside In
We also support visible skin rejuvenation with advanced aesthetic treatments such as microneedling with SkinPen Precision Elite, cosmetic Botox, photobiomodulation (PBM) — also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or red light therapy — and cosmetic facial acupuncture.
These therapies help support collagen production, skin repair, circulation, tissue healing, and healthier-looking skin. By combining internal optimization with external skin treatments, we aim to support healthier skin, healthier aging, and more natural-looking long-term results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Acubalance’s approach to skin care different?
Acubalance is an integrative medical clinic that combines advanced aesthetic treatments with a whole-body medical lens. Rather than taking a cosmetic-only approach, we look at hormones, inflammation, stress, sleep, metabolic health, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and nervous system regulation, because these all influence how your skin looks, feels, and ages. Our goal is not perfection or artificial-looking results — it is to help you feel good and look good with natural-looking rejuvenation.
What does “inside out and outside in” mean?
It means we support both your internal health and your external skin rejuvenation. From the inside out, we may recommend therapies such as acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, supplements, nutritional IV therapy, hormone support, and lifestyle and nutrition to address the internal factors that influence how your skin heals and ages. From the outside in, we offer advanced aesthetic treatments such as microneedling, cosmetic Botox, photobiomodulation, and cosmetic facial acupuncture to support collagen production, skin repair, and healthier-looking skin.
Which advanced skin treatments does Acubalance offer?
We offer microneedling with the SkinPen Precision Elite, cosmetic Botox, photobiomodulation (PBM, also known as low-level laser therapy or red light therapy), and cosmetic facial acupuncture. Each treatment works differently, and many patients benefit from combining therapies as part of a personalized treatment plan designed for their goals, skin concerns, and overall health.
What skin concerns can you help address?
We support a wide range of skin and healthy-aging concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, forehead and frown lines, crow’s feet, thinning or crepey skin, loss of firmness and elasticity, dull or uneven texture, enlarged pores, acne scars, pigmentation and sun damage, dry or dehydrated skin, neck and hand aging, menopause-related skin changes, hair thinning and scalp health, and surgical scars including C-section scars. Some patients come for prevention and maintenance, while others seek support for changes that have become more noticeable with age, stress, or hormonal shifts.
Why does my skin change so much during perimenopause and menopause?
As we age, the body gradually produces less collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm, smooth, and resilient. Hormonal changes can accelerate this, and it becomes especially noticeable during perimenopause and menopause, when declining estrogen can contribute to reduced collagen production, thinner skin, dryness, and more visible signs of aging. Research suggests women can lose up to approximately 30% of skin collagen in the first 5 years after menopause, followed by an ongoing decline of roughly 2% per year thereafter, though how quickly this happens varies significantly from person to person.
What is inflammaging, and how does it affect my skin?
Inflammaging refers to chronic low-grade inflammation that gradually accelerates cellular damage and aging throughout the body. Over time, this inflammatory burden can contribute to accelerated collagen breakdown, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired cellular repair, and faster visible skin aging. This is one reason two people of the same chronological age can look very different, and it is why we address root-cause factors such as stress, sleep, hormones, metabolic health, and nutrition rather than treating the skin alone.
Which skin treatment is right for me?
The best treatment or combination of treatments depends on your goals, skin concerns, age, and overall health. Because each therapy works differently, many patients benefit from combining treatments as part of a personalized plan. We invite you to book a consultation so we can better understand your goals and help create a treatment plan designed specifically for you and for your skin.
I’m trying to conceive or pregnant — are there skin treatments that are appropriate for me?
Cosmetic facial acupuncture is one of our preferred skin rejuvenation treatments for patients who are trying to conceive, undergoing IVF, or preparing for frozen embryo transfer, since Botox is generally not recommended during these stages. It supports circulation, collagen production, skin vitality, and nervous system regulation while promoting a natural, whole-body approach to healthy aging. Your practitioner will review your health history to help determine what is appropriate and safe for you.
