Look Refreshed. Relax Lines. Still Look Like You.

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that softens facial lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them. At Acubalance in Vancouver, Botox is performed by our naturopathic doctors using a conservative, natural-looking approach that preserves your expression.

Botox offers a simple, non-surgical way to soften facial lines, relax wrinkles, and create a more refreshed appearance. At Acubalance, our goal is not to make you look different or frozen. Our goal is to help you look rested, refreshed, and like the best version of yourself while preserving natural facial movement and expression.

Botox treatments at Acubalance are performed by our naturopathic doctors, who combine aesthetic expertise with a whole body medical lens. We understand that how your face ages is influenced by much more than muscle movement alone. Hormonal changes, inflammation, stress, sleep, metabolism, collagen loss, and overall health all influence how your skin and face age over time. That is why we take an integrative approach to healthy aging.

Some patients choose Botox as a standalone treatment. Others combine Botox with microneedling, photobiomodulation, cosmetic facial acupuncture, naturopathic care, and other therapies to support healthier skin from the inside out and outside in. Whether your goal is prevention, softening existing lines, or maintaining a naturally youthful and refreshed appearance, we are here to help.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a cosmetic neuromodulator used to soften expression lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial muscle movement. It works by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles responsible for creating dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines that form from repeated expressions such as frowning, squinting, smiling, or raising your eyebrows.

Common examples of dynamic wrinkles include:

  • forehead lines
  • frown lines (the “11s” between the eyebrows)
  • crow’s feet around the eyes
  • bunny lines on the nose

As these muscles relax, the overlying skin is no longer being repeatedly folded in the same way, allowing lines and wrinkles to soften and appear less noticeable.

Botox does not permanently change your face. Its effects are temporary and gradually wear off, which is why maintenance treatments are needed to sustain results. When administered with precision and a conservative approach, Botox can create natural-looking rejuvenation while preserving facial expression and movement.

At Acubalance, our philosophy is not to erase every line. Our goal is to soften unwanted lines while helping you still look natural, expressive, and like yourself.

The Acubalance Difference

At Acubalance, we take a whole-person approach to aesthetics. Our focus is on achieving natural-looking results that enhance your appearance while preserving facial expression and movement.

Botox treatments at Acubalance are performed by our naturopathic doctors, who combine aesthetic expertise with a whole body medical lens. We understand that how your face ages is influenced by much more than muscle movement alone — hormonal changes, inflammation, stress, sleep, metabolism, and collagen loss all play a role.

We believe healthy skin and overall wellness work together. Many patients choose to combine Botox treatments with acupuncture, naturopathic care, photobiomodulation (LED red and infrared light therapy), microneedling, and other wellness services to support healthy aging from the inside out.

As a fertility-aware integrative clinic, we also pay close attention to timing. We typically do not recommend Botox during active fertility treatment cycles or pregnancy, and can guide you toward gentler skin-rejuvenation options when the timing matters.

How Botox Works

Every time you smile, frown, squint, laugh, or raise your eyebrows, your facial muscles contract and fold the skin above them. When we are younger, the skin typically bounces back easily because collagen, elastin, and skin hydration are higher. Over time, repeated facial movements, combined with the natural aging process, cause these lines to become more noticeable and eventually more permanent.

This is where Botox can help. Botox works by temporarily reducing the contraction of specific facial muscles that cause repeated skin folding. As those muscles relax, the overlying skin experiences less repetitive creasing, allowing lines and wrinkles to soften over time.

To better understand Botox, it helps to understand two types of wrinkles.

•  Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles appear primarily during facial movement. Examples include lines that appear when you frown, smile, squint, or raise your eyebrows. These are often the wrinkles that respond best to Botox.

•  Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles are lines that remain visible even when your face is fully at rest. These often develop over time as collagen declines and the skin loses elasticity. Botox may help soften static lines, but deeper static wrinkles often respond best to a combination approach.

At Acubalance, we often combine Botox with therapies such as microneedling, photobiomodulation, cosmetic facial acupuncture, skincare, and whole-body support to improve skin quality and promote healthier aging. This is one reason Botox works best when viewed as part of a broader healthy aging strategy rather than simply as a wrinkle treatment.

Why Faces Age

Wrinkles and facial aging are about more than repeated muscle movement. While facial expressions certainly contribute to lines over time, they are only one part of the story.

As we age, the face naturally undergoes structural and biological changes. Collagen and elastin gradually decline, skin hydration decreases, and the skin becomes thinner and less resilient. This means the skin does not bounce back as easily after repeated facial movement.

Hormonal changes also play a major role. This becomes especially noticeable during perimenopause and menopause, when declining estrogen can accelerate collagen loss, reduce skin thickness, and contribute to dryness, laxity, and more visible wrinkles.

Inflammation is another major factor. At Acubalance, we often talk about inflammaging, which refers to chronic low-grade inflammation that accelerates biological aging. Inflammation contributes to faster collagen breakdown, oxidative stress, impaired cellular repair, and accelerated skin aging.

Factors that can accelerate facial aging include:

  • chronic stress and elevated cortisol
  • poor sleep
  • hormonal imbalance
  • oxidative stress
  • metabolic dysfunction and blood sugar dysregulation
  • nutrient deficiencies
  • inflammation
  • excessive sun exposure
  • smoking and environmental toxins

This is one reason two people of the same chronological age can look very different. One may appear vibrant, youthful, and healthy, while the other may appear significantly older due to accelerated biological aging.

At Acubalance, we believe healthy aging means supporting both the internal and external factors that influence how your face and skin age over time. This is why our approach goes beyond simply treating wrinkles. We aim to support healthier skin and healthier aging from the inside out and outside in.

What Can Botox Help With?

Botox is best known for softening facial lines and wrinkles, but its benefits go beyond cosmetic rejuvenation. At Acubalance, Botox may be used to support both aesthetic and functional concerns, depending on your goals and treatment plan.

Cosmetic Uses of Botox

Botox is commonly used to soften dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial movement, helping create a smoother, more refreshed appearance while preserving natural expression. Common cosmetic treatment areas include:

  • forehead lines
  • frown lines (the “11s” between the eyebrows)
  • crow’s feet around the eyes
  • bunny lines on the nose
  • lip lines or smoker’s lines
  • chin dimpling or orange peel texture
  • downturned corners of the mouth
  • jawline contouring or facial slimming

Our philosophy at Acubalance is not to erase every line. Rather, our goal is to soften unwanted lines while preserving facial balance, natural movement, and expression.

During your consultation, our naturopathic doctors will assess your goals, facial anatomy, muscle patterns, and overall health to determine whether Botox is an appropriate treatment for you.

Why Choose Acubalance for Botox?

At Acubalance, Botox is about more than simply relaxing wrinkles. Our goal is to help you look refreshed, rested, and naturally rejuvenated while preserving facial expression and movement. We believe the best cosmetic results are the ones that still look like you. That means softer lines, improved facial balance, and a fresher appearance without looking frozen, overdone, or unnatural.

→ Natural-Looking Results

Our philosophy is conservative, precise, and personalized. We are not trying to erase every line or remove all facial movement. Instead, we aim to soften unwanted lines while preserving the natural expressions that make your face uniquely yours.

→ Treatment by Naturopathic Doctors

Botox treatments at Acubalance are performed by our naturopathic doctors. This means your treatment is guided by medical training, detailed facial assessment, and an understanding of both aesthetics and overall health. Facial anatomy, muscle movement, symmetry, and treatment goals all matter when creating safe, natural-looking results.

→ A Whole Body Approach to Healthy Aging

At Acubalance, we recognize that facial aging is influenced by much more than muscle movement. Hormones, inflammation, stress, sleep, metabolism, oxidative stress, and collagen health all affect how your face and skin age over time. This is why we take an integrative approach to healthy aging.

For some patients, Botox is an excellent standalone treatment. For others, the best results come from combining Botox with other therapies such as microneedling, photobiomodulation, cosmetic facial acupuncture, skincare, and naturopathic support. This is what we mean when we say we support healthy skin from the inside out and outside in.

What Happens During a Botox Treatment?

Botox treatments at Acubalance are straightforward, minimally invasive, and typically completed within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the treatment areas.

Your appointment begins with a consultation and facial assessment. We review your concerns, treatment goals, facial anatomy, muscle movement, medical history, and whether Botox is the right fit for you. This assessment is important because every face is different. Muscle strength, symmetry, facial expressions, and treatment goals all influence how we customize your treatment plan.

Once the treatment plan is finalized, small amounts of Botox are precisely injected into targeted muscles using a very fine needle. Most patients describe the injections as very tolerable, often feeling like a quick pinch or small mosquito bite. Treatment is typically brief, and many patients are surprised by how fast the procedure is.

After treatment, you may notice mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or small bumps at the injection sites. These effects are usually temporary and often resolve within minutes to hours. Most patients return to normal daily activities immediately after treatment. This is one reason Botox is often considered a convenient treatment for busy schedules.

Before you leave, your practitioner will review aftercare instructions and discuss what to expect over the next several days as results gradually develop. Because Botox results continue to evolve over approximately 10 to 14 days, we typically ask patients to send updated photos around the 2-week mark so we can assess results and determine whether any adjustments are needed.

What to Expect

Your appointment begins with a consultation to discuss your concerns, treatment goals, facial anatomy, and suitability for treatment.

Small amounts of Botox are precisely injected into selected muscles using a very fine needle. Most patients describe the discomfort as minimal and brief.

You can typically return to normal activities immediately following treatment. Some mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at injection sites may occur but usually resolves quickly.

When Will I See Results and How Long Does Botox Last?

Botox does not work immediately. Most patients begin noticing early changes within 3 to 7 days, with full results typically developing over 10 to 14 days. As the treated muscles gradually relax, expression lines become softer and less noticeable, creating a smoother and more refreshed appearance.

How long Botox lasts varies from person to person. For most patients, results last approximately 3 to 4 months, although this can vary depending on:

  • treatment area
  • dosage used
  • muscle strength
  • metabolism
  • lifestyle factors

Some individuals metabolize Botox more quickly, while others may notice results lasting longer. With regular treatments, some patients find that results may last longer over time as targeted muscles become trained to contract less forcefully.

Many patients choose maintenance treatments 3 to 4 times per year to maintain consistent results and help prevent the formation of deeper wrinkles over time. Our goal is always natural looking results that age well over time, rather than over-treatment or aggressive correction.

When Botox May Not Be Recommended

Botox is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. At Acubalance, we also typically do not recommend Botox during active fertility treatment cycles, including IVF stimulation, frozen embryo transfer preparation, or while actively trying to conceive.

Please check with your insurance provider for details.

Ready to Look Refreshed While Still Looking Like You?

Your chronological age is simply the number of years you have been alive. Your biological age reflects how well your cells, tissues, and body are actually aging. This is one reason two people of the same age can look very different. One may look vibrant, youthful, and healthy, while the other may appear older than their chronological age due to accelerated biological aging.

Factors such as inflammation, oxidative stress, hormonal changes, metabolic dysfunction, chronic stress, and lifestyle all influence how your face and skin age over time.

At Acubalance, our goal is not to create a frozen face or artificial-looking results. Our goal is to help support healthier skin, slower biological aging, and natural-looking rejuvenation so your outer appearance better reflects how vibrant and healthy you feel on the inside.

That is why our approach combines Botox with a broader understanding of hormones, inflammation, metabolism, stress, and overall health. This is what we mean when we say we support healthy skin from the inside out and outside in.

Whether your goal is prevention, softening existing lines, or maintaining a refreshed and naturally youthful appearance, we are here to help. Our team can help you understand your options and guide you toward the next best steps based on your goals, facial anatomy, skin, and overall health.

If you are ready for a more personalized and integrative approach to healthy aging and facial rejuvenation, we invite you to book a consultation with our team.
