If you are reading this page, then you likely have invested more time and money than you ever thought would have been needed to conceive and have a baby. We understand how important it is for you to feel confident that you are with a clinic that can understand and anticipate your needs as well as have the knowledge and clinical experience to provide you with the necessary support you deserve to make your IVF/FET cycle both a positive experience and a successful one too.
Acupuncture to increase IVF Success
Acubalance Wellness Centre has an over 20-year history of being a leading natural fertility clinic - we’ve been operating in Vancouver, BC since 2000. Our founder and clinical director, Dr. Lorne Brown, was the catalyst for IVF acupuncture being offered onsite at all the Vancouver IVF clinics and he pioneered Laser for Fertility in Canada and the United States. Our continued track record of offering integrative fertility care and our relationship with IVF clinics around the world, and locally with Olive Fertility Centre, provides us with a deep understanding of your IVF process, what you may be going through emotionally, physically and financially, and how to best support you on your fertility journey to parenthood.
Acubalance's onsite laser acupuncture treatment protocol on Frozen Embryo transfer (FET) day for Comprehensive Chromosome Screened (CCS) embryos had a higher pregnancy rate and lower miscarriage rate than women that did not receive Acubalance treatments on-site at Olive Fertility Centre. All transferred embryos were chromosomally tested to be normal. Olive did a retrospective analysis for the period January 2016 to March 2018 of FET transfers that were screened for normal chromosomes. They compared those who had onsite Acubalance laser acupuncture to those who did not. Patients receiving Acubalance onsite IVF laser acupuncture treatments had higher pregnancy rates and lower miscarriages compared to those who did not have onsite laser + acupuncture for chromosomally normal transferred embryos. And women who had a series of acupuncture and laser sessions leading up to transfer plus IVF acupuncture on transfer day had the highest success rate.
How acupuncture can help improve IVF Success
- Acupuncture improves blood flow to your reproductive organs (ovaries and uterine lining)
- Increased ovarian blood flow may help with your response to fertility medications. Increased uterine blood flow helps ensure a thick uterine lining and provides for an ideal environment for implantation. The goal of improved blood flow is for better response to fertility medications, optimize egg quality, and improved uterine receptivity. Photobiomodulation (laser for fertility) also improves blood flow.
- Acupuncture reduces the stress response
- The Acu-Buzz - Acupuncture leads to relaxed muscles, your breathing to slow, and to peace of mind. This calm response from acupuncture helps IVF patients feel more relaxed during their fertility treatment, and as a result, also feel more “in control.” Stress hormones can interfere with ovulation and implantation and the stress response can also lead to a reduction of blood flow to your reproductive organs, so your acu-buzz indirectly helps with nourishing your ovaries and uterine lining.
- Acupuncture improves your odds of having a baby with IVF
- The research on IVF acupuncture shows success seems to be related to the dosage of acupuncture (number of sessions leading up to transfer day). In recent studies, women who added more acupuncture sessions were more likely to have a baby compared to women who did IVF alone (no acupuncture) or just acupuncture on transfer day. The studies vary from 3-15 sessions leading up to transfer day to increase the odds of having a baby through IVF.
Mechanism of low-level laser therapy (LLLT / photobiomodulation) for fertility
- Enhance mitochondrial activity and ATP production (battery of the cell)
- Increase blood flow
- Regulate inflammation
- Reduce oxidative damage
- Softening of scar tissue
- Co Q10 - Synergistic effect with LLLT
When to start your IVF support:
To increase the success rate of your IVF cycle, we recommend you make the next 100 days count and use this time to maximize your egg quality and uterine environment, and if you have a male partner, maximize his sperm, before you begin your IVF cycle or Embryo Transfer. With the start of the IVF cycle, we can also support you during the stages of hormonal regulation, follicular stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and implantation.
It is easy to arrange your laser & acupuncture treatment for pre and post embryo transfer onsite Olive with an Acubalance practitioner. We are on-call every day of the year, to be available at Olive Fertility Centre. What to Expect - Read more

Why IVF Doctors Recommend Fertility Acupuncture with IVF
The Process Is Simple
Free 15-minute Discovery Call
During your free discovery call, you and our clinician will discuss your case, medical history, any medications you’re taking, and most important of all, your goals. We want to be certain that our program will meet your needs and there is a high probability of success for you before we move on to the next step.
Detailed Assessment & Treatment Plan
Once your discovery call is complete and you agree to move forward, the next step is your intake appointment. At this appointment, your clinician will take a detailed assessment of your symptom patterns, medical history, and other relevant factors, in order to determine the root cause of your issue and devise a specific plan catered to you.
Your first acupuncture session will be performed at this time, and you will be given a detailed treatment plan with easy-to-follow instructions. Your plan may include dietary and lifestyle adjustments as well as key supplements and herbal medicines to address the root causes of your endometriosis.
Active Treatment & Symptom Resolution
You’ll return for regular visits (exact frequency to be determined by your practitioner) to ensure close support as you begin to feel the positive shifts of the therapy. We want to make sure your treatment plan is yielding the expected results:
- Significant reduction in pain
- Normal menstrual flow
- More regular periods
- Healthy, stable mood
- Abundant energy and restful sleep
You’ll also receive acupuncture and/or low-level laser therapy (LLLT/photobiomodulation) at each visit. This will ensure that your neuroendocrine system -- which is the delicate connection between your nervous and hormonal systems -- is rebalancing in a way that results in continued optimal hormonal balance.
Transitional Care As Your Condition Stabilizes
Once we see stable improvements, we will begin to reduce the frequency of your visits. This usually occurs after about 8-12 visits. Typically you would start out coming every other week, then once a month for a couple of visits, and then you will no longer need regular treatments.
We’ll be here in case you ever want to come in for a tune-up or to address other health concerns.
Of course, many of our patients do wish to continue with “ongoing maintenance” and we are happy to work that out with you, should that be your wish.
Taking Care of Your Friends and Loved Ones
We pride ourselves on the fact that 80% of our new patients have been referred to us by our past patients or people in the community who have witnessed their friends and loved ones receiving life-changing benefits from our work.
So we very much look forward to helping your friends, family, and loved ones on their journey to a more joyful, energetic, and purposeful life.
