Canada Day weekend 2007 found me in bed crying for three days as I miscarried at 10 weeks. My husband lied next to me, holding me the whole time. I felt so crushed, so broken, like my body and my life was betraying me. I had to undergo a D&C at the hospital. We had gotten pregnant after about six months of trying; I was 37 at the time, my husband almost 48.

It is with great joy that I thank Dr. Lorne Brown and the entire Acubalance team for their extraordinary care. I’m happily and healthfully 24 weeks pregnant with my first child at age 36.
After several years of trying to conceive unsuccessfully, I was diagnosed with stage four endometriosis in March 2007. The doctor said that I only had a 20% chance of getting pregnant naturally but would have a better chance using assisted reproductive technology. This was very devastating news. Based on our chances, we contemplated trying IVF. They suggested that I take several medications to get my condition under control before even trying...
After a year of trying to conceive, I was diagnosed with "premature ovarian failure" at the age of 26. Devastated, my husband and I thought our chances to have a child were over. After much soul searching and research, we decided in vitro fertilization (IVF) was the path we wanted to take. IVF is an expensive procedure, not covered by our insurance, so it took us a while to save up the funds and to identify an egg donor.
After having tried to conceive on our own for a year and a half, my husband and I were referred to a doctor at the UBC Fertility Clinic. After many tests, I learned I was not a candidate for IVH because of my low ovarian reserve. -- I had a low antral follicle count, and my FSH was 14. It is desirable for AFC to be at least 5 and FSH to be below 10. -- On top of the existing issues, I was 40 years old - no spring chicken!
After trying to get pregnant with metformin and then clomid for a couple of years, I ended up with severe hot flashes, headaches, swing moods and no baby! A friend recommended I visit Acubalance. At the beginning, I was very sceptical; I doubted my hot flashes could be fixed with acupuncture. Pregnancy was not on my mind anymore. I was very disappointed.
Wow, I’m not sure where to begin. I think the title alone says a lot. I just wish I had learned about Acubalance a lot sooner.
The first thing I have to say is that I wish I had gone to Acubalance earlier than I did. I am 42, have lead a very healthy life, and am now 22 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby girl but it took me (us) two somewhat agonizing years to get here. I credit our pregnancy to the peace/joy and balance that we had in the latter part of these two years, in large part to my (our) experiences with Acubalance.
My husband and I would like to thank you for all your support and encouragement during a very difficult time for us. From the moment we met you at Acubalance in Langley back in April 2008, we felt comfortable talking to you and sharing with you our infertility journey. Your calm and caring personality made me feel very relaxed every time I came for my acupuncture sessions. As anxious as I was about acupuncture when I first...
