Seven Benefits of Laser Acupuncture for Fertility
There have been significant advancements in the field of laser therapy since we introduced laser acupuncture to enhance egg quality and improve IVF success in late 2008.
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation (PBM) for fertility, may sound like futuristic medicine, but research shows it can boost fertility and improve IVF outcomes.
Recent studies indicate that combining acupuncture and LLLT with fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) can increase live birth rates and improve health outcomes for mothers and babies. This approach has also been beneficial for women diagnosed with PCOS, endometriosis, and unexplained infertility.

Beyond supporting IVF, the combination of acupuncture and LLLT offers several other benefits:
Enhances Mitochondrial Function and ATP Production
Mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, play a crucial role in fertility by providing the energy needed for egg division and embryo implantation. Laser acupuncture stimulates ATP production, ensuring the egg has the necessary energy to develop, whether in the uterus or an IVF lab. One study even found that laser acupuncture at the IVF clinic on the day of embryo transfer increased implantation rates by 15%.
Regulates Inflammation
Systemic inflammation can decrease fertility chances. Women with conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS, or unexplained infertility may benefit from a combination of LLLT treatments, antioxidant supplements, and an anti-inflammatory fertility diet to regulate inflammation and enhance reproductive health.
Improves Blood Circulation
Poor blood circulation can make conception difficult. As a woman ages, blood flow to the reproductive organs declines, affecting ovarian function and uterine receptivity. Photobiomodulation enhances blood circulation and lymphatic flow, ensuring optimal delivery of nutrients, oxygen, and hormones to support egg quality and implantation.
Reduces Stress and Supports Parasympathetic Function
Stress and infertility are closely linked. Elevated stress hormones such as cortisol and epinephrine can disrupt blood sugar regulation and decrease blood flow to the ovaries and uterus. LLLT promotes the body’s parasympathetic function, helping to regulate stress and enhance fertility.
Speeds Tissue Healing
LLLT helps heal damaged tissues, soften scarring, and reduce adhesions, which can improve fertility outcomes. Scar tissue from previous surgeries or infections can interfere with reproductive function, making targeted laser therapy a valuable tool in fertility care.
Supports Gut Microbiome Health
The gut microbiome plays a vital role in overall health, affecting conditions such as eczema, autoimmune diseases, obesity, and even mental health. Emerging research suggests a connection between the gut and uterine microbiome, potentially influencing implantation success. Studies have shown that LLLT can positively impact gut health, with promising results in conditions like Parkinson’s disease.

Enhances Brain Function, Mood, and Libido
Photobiomodulation has been used for conditions such as dementia, PTSD, anxiety, and Parkinson’s. One study even suggests it may enhance libido—an important factor for couples trying to conceive. Many of my fertility patients who receive laser treatments for mood support report noticeable improvements in their emotional well-being.
