Preventing Another Failed FET: How Photobiomodulation Can Improve Your Chances of Success
At Acubalance Wellness Centre in Vancouver, we have witnessed how emotionally and physically challenging it can be to face a failed frozen embryo transfer (FET), especially when the embryo was screened to be chromosomal normal (euploid embryo). That’s why we are pleased to offer an innovative, evidence-based treatment to help improve your chances of FET/IVFsuccess: low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation.
This safe, non-invasive therapy has shown promise in improving implantation rates, particularly for those with recurrent implantation failure (RIF). If you’re preparing for a FET or have experienced unsuccessful IVF transfers, this treatment could be the support you’ve been searching for to help you get to a successful transfer.

Who Can Benefit from LLLT?
LLLT may be particularly beneficial if you:
• Have experienced recurrent implantation failure (RIF)—defined as three or more failed transfers with high-quality embryos.
• Are preparing for a frozen embryo transfer (FET) and want to enhance your chances of success.
• Want to improve endometrial receptivity and uterine blood flow to create a more favorable environment for implantation.
Even if you haven’t experienced failed transfers, using LLLT proactively can support optimal conditions for a healthy pregnancy.
How Does LLLT Work?
LLLT uses low-intensity red and infrared light to stimulate cellular activity, improve blood flow, and promote tissue repair. When applied to the abdomen, it can:
• Enhance uterine artery blood flow.
• Support endometrial growth and receptivity.
• Stimulate the production of growth factors and cytokines that aid in embryo implantation.
These effects create a healthier uterine environment, increasing the likelihood of implantation and a successful pregnancy.

Study Highlights: The Benefits of LLLT for FET
A clinical study published June 2024
Focused on 30 women between the ages of 24 and 39 who had faced the emotional and physical toll of recurrent implantation failure (RIF)—defined as three or more failed embryo transfers with high-quality embryos. These women underwent LLLT before their frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles, with encouraging results:
• Biochemical pregnancy rates (positive blood pregnancy test): 46.7% in the LLLT group vs. 33.3% in the control group.
• Clinical pregnancy rates (confirmed by ultrasound): 33.3% in the LLLT group vs. 20% in the control group.
The study suggests that LLLT can improve outcomes for FET patients by enhancing endometrial receptivity and blood flow.
