LLLT Laser Therapy for IVF: From Egg Retrieval to Embryo Transfer Support

Egg retrieval is a pivotal moment in the IVF journey—but it’s also a minor surgical procedure that naturally triggers an inflammatory response. While inflammation is essential for healing, when it lingers too long, it can slow recovery, increase discomfort, and leave the body in a state of imbalance.

That’s where Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBM), comes in.

LLLT works by targeting the mitochondria—your cells’ energy producers—to boost ATP production, reduce oxidative stress, and improve cellular repair. This accelerates wound healing, reduces post-op swelling, and supports a faster return to balance after surgery.

Clinical studies have shown that LLLT reduces pain and inflammation and accelerates healing in both pre- and post-operative care. For example, research in surgical settings (e.g., oral and orthopedic surgery) has demonstrated that LLLT significantly decreases post-surgical swelling and pain and shortens recovery time by enhancing tissue regeneration and modulating the immune response.

That’s why at Acubalance, we recommend LLLT within 24–48 hours after egg retrieval to:

  • Calm lingering inflammation

  • Enhance circulation and oxygenation

  • Accelerate tissue healing and minimize discomfort

We don’t just use LLLT after retrieval. In fact, LLLT is part of our integrative fertility support throughout the IVF process:

  • Before Egg Retrieval: We use red light therapy 2x/week in the months and weeks leading up to retrieval to support mitochondrial function and egg quality.

  • Post-Retrieval & Pre-FET: We continue 2x/week treatments to reduce inflammation and optimize uterine receptivity.

On Transfer Day: We offer LLLT on-site at Olive Fertility Centre immediately before and after embryo transfer to support implantation.

You can read more about our LLLT protocol for improving implantation rates and reducing recurrent implantation failure in our related blog on https://acubalance.ca/blog/

Whether you’re preparing for IVF, recovering from egg retrieval, or optimizing for embryo transfer, LLLT offers a safe, evidence-based, and non-invasive tool to support your success.
