What to Expect on IVF Transfer Day

An Acupuncture Orientation

Times have changed for the better when it comes to integrative fertility care and being able to offer acupuncture before and after IVF embryo transfer onsite at the IVF clinics.

I have been in practice since 2000 and in 2002 I began to establish on-site acupuncture for embryo transfers. The first few years the IVF clinics were not receptive to the idea of acupuncturists being on-site and often would discourage patients from using fertility acupuncture.

I stayed the course of my vision of better patient centered care at the IVF clinics which included integrative fertility care and I am proud to be credited for being the instigating force to have acupuncture available onsite at all the VF clinics in Vancouver. It has become such a common desire to have acupuncture be included with patient’s embryo transfer that Acubalance is busy offering onsite acupuncture before and after embryo transfer solely for Olive 7 days a week all year.

Back in 2002, most transfers were fresh day 3 embryo transfers. With the advancement of technology including vitrification and genetic screening, the majority of transfers are frozen day 5 blastocysts. Acupuncture has evolved too when it comes to supporting IVF cycles. At Acubalance, we have added laser acupuncture with our traditional acupuncture treatments and have observed a higher pregnancy rate and lower miscarriage rate when offering a few treatments, in the weeks leading up to and on the day of embryo transfer.

This is a special time for you and this transfer is precious because of all the time, money, and emotional toll it takes you to get to the transfer. I have prepared a few resources for you, including the video below with the intention that these videos and blogs help you be prepared and feel calm & more confident on your embryo transfer day at Olive Fertility. If you have any questions, please contact us. If you want me and my team at Acubalance to support your IVF/FET cycle, contact us as well.
