Gut health and its role in inflammation

Sep 24, 2019

Our gut health and immune system are tightly related. Somewhere between 70-80% of our immune cells reside just behind our gut lining. The cells of our digestive tract and our microbiome are in constant communication with our immune system; influencing how quickly it gets activated. For this reason, our gut health plays a huge role in the development of inflammation.

Rethinking Medication and Choosing Acupuncture When it Comes to These Three Common Health Conditions

Sep 23, 2019

Western medicine has trained us to pop a pill whenever an undesirable symptom arises. We go to advil or Tylenol for a headache, without calculating if we’ve had enough water today, or perhaps we should take a break from computer use. We are trained to think to think of pain or discomfort merely through the symptoms and beeline towards symptomatic relief without proper analysis of the root cause.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy and Acupuncture Combined for Anxiety and Trauma

Sep 11, 2019

Syndrome clusters: it’s a phenomenon we see here at the clinic all the time. No one seems to have a good explanation, but somehow we all experience it: a specific condition will show up on our schedules in clusters. I’m seeing this in my own practice recently, as a matter of fact. In the past few weeks, half a dozen people have called the clinic looking for help with anxiety. This is not the first time I’ve seen this, especially since the treatment of anxiety, panic and depression with acupuncture is so effective. Either way, I’m getting the message: it’s time for an explanation of my approach to this, how the treatment works for anxiety, and why you should give it a try.

Fertility Advice Your Grandma Would Give You

Sep 10, 2019

Our Grandparents are filled with information, and we traditionally seek knowledge from them when we were looking for life's answers. Today we first search google for tidbits of information and rarely use our grandparent's experience. Unfortunately google often overwhelms us with information in contrast to our Grandparents as they would provide us with a few pieces of clear useful actions.

Sep 10, 2019

It’s barely September and I’ve already had a handful of patients come in with sore throats and runny noses. It’s officially that time of year, so don’t wait until after you’ve caught the bugs to begin boosting your immune system, but increase immunity before and during cold and flu season to give your body the strength it needs to fight of pathogens.

5 Ways to Boost your Mood this Fall

Sep 09, 2019

Fall is just around the corner, and in classic Vancouver fashion, it starts with rain! Days are getting shorter, and mornings are getting darker. During this time, our hormones (serotonin and melatonin) adjust to changes in daylight, and this can commonly cause low mood and low energy levels.
