Three Things Not To Do When Getting Acupuncture For Fertility

Ryan's picture

There are so many things that can benefit a person who is undergoing Acupuncture for their fertility. Acupuncture can be very effective in regulating hormones, improving blood flow and treating fertility. There are things that can both decrease or boost these benefits and when practiced consistently can increase your odds of success. Through the years I have found 3 things that greatly decrease the benefits of patients coming for Acupuncture. If you can side step these 3 pitfalls you can be way ahead in your health.

What Not To Do Number 1 - Not Coming Regularly

Acupuncture needs to be done regularly! Unlike massage most of my patients are coming once or twice per week. When I was doing my practicum in China it was common for patients to have treatment 6 days per week. Patients having acupuncture less than once per week can still have good results but will generally take much longer to see these improvements. Depending on an individuals diagnosis and what they are doing (example - trying to conceive naturally or with IVF medications) the frequency of receiving acupuncture will change. A general rule of thumb is acupuncture once or twice per week will be a good "dose" of treatment.

What Not To Do Number 2 - Stop Using Your Phone During Treatment!

Acupuncture helps to regulate the nervous system by regulating the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems. It is also able to modulate neurotransmitters within the brain. When in treatment try to allow these processes to happen without interruption. Many patients want to have their phone in hand in case they get bored or due to the phone addiction the general population has now. This can disrupt the benefits you can be getting during treatment. Turn your phone off, breathe deeply and allow your body to relax as you lay on the table. The needles will do the rest!

What Not To Do Number 3 - Only Doing Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the best known treatments of Chinese medicine. Few people understand that this treatment is only one small area of the medicine practiced by Chinese Medicine Doctors and Practitioners. The tool box in Chinese Medicine includes Dietary Therapy, Lifestyle adjustments, Herbal Formulas as well as Acupuncture. When patients only adopt the acupuncture they are missing out!

I often treat patients using a distance program we offer for those unable to see us here in Vancouver. I have had the opportunity to treat people from all over the world. Many patients in different countries do not have acupuncture available to them. In these cases dietary, lifestyle and herbal treatment is the key to their success without the use of any acupuncture.

As a general rule with my patients, if they are coming for regular Acupuncture sessions, able to stay focused during treatment and following a treatment plan outside of the office they can have great results. Those not able to adopt all 3 areas will still see results but at a slower rate of success.

If you are currently doing Acupuncture and having trouble seeing results maybe it's something above that you should adjust. Talk with your practitioner to see what else you can do to get the results you are wanting to achieve.
