Men Have Only Half The Fertility Of Their Fathers

We know that men's fertility has been on the decline for decades but few people put much thought into it. Men produce multi million amounts of sperm so who cares about a few less right? Wrong! The average man in the early 1970's produced an average of 99 million sperm per milliliter. Fast forward to 2011 the average man only is producing 47 million sperm per milliliter. Thats well over a 50% decline in less than 40 years. What's even more concerning is this decreasing trend doesn't seem to be stopping. The drop continues and we don't have a reason why!

I speculate that it's due to our environment and changing lifestyle during this time that has been the cause of this detriment. Lack of sleep, being sedentary, chemical exposure, less time in nature and drug/alcohol use has likely brought us to this state. Since we don't seem to be changing these things the detriment continues.
Scientists analyzing this information has also shown a higher mortality rate with men who have lower sperm counts. This means fertility problems are a sign of overall health problems. Really scary information considering we do not have a concrete answer as to why this is happening.
Men are too small a percentage of the patients I treat. I truly believe many couples could have a healthy pregnancy if the male partner also came for treatment. So many guys go for a semen analysis, meet the minimal requirements (or are just below) and feel they are fine. We don't want to meet minimal requirements. For best chances of pregnancy we would be well above these numbers!
So What Can You Do
At Acubalance we create a custom treatment plan designed specifically for you to improve your sperm parameters. If we are able to increase your semen analysis we also know your overall health improves. We dive into lifestyle, history, environment and what treatments will likely give you the best chance of a healthy child. To read about the Acubalance approach to male fertility read our info page.

We know approximately 40% of couples having trouble conceiving is due to a male factor problem. If more men took control of their health we could see a significant improvement in both natural pregnancies and pregnancies through Assisted Reproductive Technologies such as IVF.
