One of the Most Important Factors in Egg Quality, Healthy Lining, and Conception
It’s easy to get caught up in the little things when trying to conceive or going through fertility treatments. Will that one glass of wine or additional supplement really make a difference, your AMH and FSH numbers down to the hundredths decimal place, and to eat or not to eat that entire pineapple core. But what we can be sure of, because the research backs it up, is that focusing a significant portion of your energy on healthy blood circulation is incredibly beneficial.
Healthy blood circulation is important because it’s what provides your uterine lining and ovaries (and therefore eggs) with healthy, oxygenated, nutrient rich blood so these cells can be the healthiest they can be. Blood flow to the growing follicles (that house the eggs), is crucial for healthy development (the maturation process takes about a year!). Studies show that eggs from ovaries that received better blood flow had better outcomes of IVF and pregnancy rates.
Poor blood flow to the uterine lining can result in thin (less than 8mm) lining that will be unsustainable for pregnancy, no matter how healthy the egg is. The thickness of your uterine lining has been shown to be an important prognostic factor in a successful embryo implantation when undergoing IVF.
Signs of poor blood circulation? Cold hands and feet, fatigue, muscle cramps, cramping during your period, dark menstrual blood, clots in the menstrual blood, and pale lips/face/tongue.
So what can you do to improve your blood flow and increase egg quality and a healthy uterine lining? Acupuncture has been shown to increase ovarian blood flow and vascularization to the ovaries, especially in conjunction with electro stimulation. Eat a diet rich in blood building foods such as spinach, beats, beans, and organic and grass fed red meats. Low level laser therapy (which can be combined with acupuncture for double the effects) has been shown to improve the health of endometrial cells by encourage healthy cell growth and proliferation.
