More Studies Confirm Laser Effective in Treating PCOS
If you’ve been following our blog posts for awhile now, you may have noticed that we love to talk about PCOS, or polycystic ovarian syndrome, one of the most common gynecological and metabolic disorders that has an impact on fertility. And that’s because acupuncture, diet and lifestyle modifications, and now low level laser therapy can make huge impacts on cycle regulation and hormonal balance. And scientific studies are continuously confirming this.
Yet another study has confirmed that low level laser therapy can improve ovarian activity in rats with PCOS. In this study, 45 adult female rats with induced PCOS were irradiated with light three times per week for 2 months. Results showed that the rats had healthier BMI’s, reduced ovarian mass, decreased LH levels, increased number of healthy ovarian follicles and corpus luteum, and a reduction in the number of ovarian cysts. These findings show that the hormonal imbalances and resulting anovulation associated with PCOS decreases drastically with the application of low level laser therapy.
One of the great things about this study is that it reiterates the importance of dosage and frequency when it comes to laser. The subjects obtained laser therapy three times per week for 60 days to achieve the desired results, which is pretty incredible considering the average menstrual cycle for women with PCOS can be way longer than 60 days. Another great thing about this study is that it is proven with blood tests showing that reproductive and endocrine hormone levels significant improves with photobiomodulation.
