Marinate Your Meat to Prevent Cancer

There's nothing better then having a barbecue with friends during these hot summer days. Overall it's a healthy meal of fresh grilled veggies, salad and some great cut of meat. The only downside is the carcinogens produced as the meat is cooked over the open flame.

There is a way to minimize these negative effects so you can enjoy the amazing summer time meals. Simply marinatingyour meat greatly decreases these carinogenic compounds.
When meat is cooked at high temperatures over an open flame in your barbecue the protein in the meat (amino acids) will transform into toxic compounds. Not only does the protein change but the fats also are transformed.  Both these compounds damage our DNA and can be carcinogenic.
The reason the marinades help decrease these toxic properties is that they contain antioxidants. These antioxidants protect the meat while barbecuing over high heat.
In one study when a caribbean marinade was used, these toxic products were reduced by over 80%!!! Using marinades that contain fresh herbs and spices such as ginger, thyme, rosemary, garlic, chilli, lemon will help decrease these negative effects.
To read some studies on individual marinades that you can try at home on the grill, follow these links:
We are in the middle of an amazing summer. I hope you are able to use some of these ideas and keep on enjoying your grill for the next few months.
Have a wonderful barbeque!!
