LASER FOR FERTILITY METHOD: Optimizing Egg and Sperm Quality and Uterine Receptivity

I just realized I am that unaware friend at a social gathering that goes on and on about something that they are passionate about and love to talk about but others in your company may just be wishing this in-person social get together was actually on zoom so they could just exit the conversation immediately.

I had spent the past few years reading the research, talking to other experts and clinically developing laser for fertility approaches for men and women. During the past 2 weeks, I really did a deep dive again into the literature and had the opportunity to geek out with other experts to discuss what we are currently doing at Acubalance in Vancouver BC and how can we do it better. So when I was at a pool party during our heatwave and a couple asked me the right questions I just could not help but let loose and share my passion about photobiomodulation for many health complaints and in particular for fertility (PCOS, endometriosis, implantation failure, egg and sperm quality).

To be fair, they kept asking questions and I did not notice any eye rolls from them either, just a few from my wife. You know the look that says please don't or please stop talking. :-)

An increasing number of studies have shown a connection between improved fertility and laser therapy—for both men and women. Photobiomodulation may improve pregnancy rates even in women who haven’t previously been successful with fertility treatments like IVF.

Low-level laser therapy for fertility helps to stimulate blood flow to the reproductive organs and enhance cellular energy production which can improve egg quality. This is particularly significant for women who may be struggling with poor egg quality. Studies in Japan and papers from Denmark and elsewhere showed that LLLT applied to several specific anatomical features on the body can increase blood circulation and may enhance mitochondrial activity and ATP production, reducing oxidative damage. Mitochondria power our cells, and ATP is the main source of cellular energy. Eggs have 200 times more mitochondria than other cells and require a lot of energy to divide and implant. Older eggs tend to produce less ATP, which may be why they are less likely to develop and implant. LLLT can improve energy stores at the cellular level to achieve better pregnancy outcomes. Acubalance philosophy and approach:

Your body has an innate ability to heal. A fertile body is a body in balance (homeostasis), that maintains its equilibrium through its ability to self-regulate. This ability to self-regulate allows you to easily and quickly rebound from both physical and emotional insults to your well-being.

However, if your body loses its ability to self-regulate, then you find yourself struggling to rebound from illnesses, accidents and stress, and you begin to suffer from a multitude of complaints and even sub-fertility.

There is a Chinese medicine saying that states “before the age 35 you cheat disease and after the age of 35 disease cheats you.”

We pushed our bodies hard in our youth, and because we can bounce back with ease in our twenties, we were not fully aware of how this wear and tear would negatively impact our body’s ability to self-regulate and heal as we reach our mid-thirties and beyond.

The good news is by providing your body (on a cellular level) the optimal environment, you can prevent and often reverse this damage so your body can regain its homeostasis (equilibrium) and its innate ability to recover and heal so you can reach your peak fertility potential.

At Acubalance we support you in bringing your body back into balance so it can regain its self-regulating functions to assist in optimizing your fertility. We help you "nourish your soil before planting the seed".

Rather than the traditional disease-centred focus approach, at Acubalance we address the underlying causes of sub-fertility and miscarriages using a patient-centred approach addressing the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. The approach of treating the symptoms and not the underlying cause is medical piecemeal. As one symptom disappears another appears or eventually reappears. We treat you as a unique individual and not as your diagnosis or as a general stat. I find this quote by Deepak Chopra MD inspiring, "you can believe your diagnosis, but you do not have to believe in your prognosis."

We are known for our multidisciplinary approach combined with our fertility audit, an in-depth evaluation of your physical and emotional health, using both conventional and functional medicine testing, to guide us in treating the root cause(s) of infertility, pregnancy support, pain & injuries, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances.

Acupuncture

The acupuncture treatments are designed to regulate your hormones, release feel-good endorphins, reduce inflammation, decrease stress (elicit relaxation response) and increase blood flow to your reproductive organs. More blood flow to the ovaries brings nutrients, oxygen and hormones to the follicles and more blood to the uterus allows for a thicker and richer lining being receptive to implantation.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT - also known as Photobiomodulation <PBM>)

Our photobiomodulation approach Implements red and infrared light to decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, promote blood circulation, and promote tissue regeneration by increasing mitochondrial ATP (energy) production through photobiomodulation.
