Homemade Personal Care Products: It's the dry shampoo!

If you are anywhere near as big a fan of The Baroness Von Sketch as I am, then you’ve definitely seen this sketch. As the character’s life dissolves into chaos, at least she’s got great hair! Right?

Next in my series of Blogs on homemade personal care products, I’ll share one of my favourite recipes featuring, once again, Arrowroot powder. For those of us with a tendency toward dry hair, it’s best not to wash every day so as to avoid damage and breakage of already brittle hair. I recommend 2-3 times a week at most. But how to keep it from getting too oily?

Here’s the basic recipe for a great natural alternative. After you make it, store it in a mister spray bottle, and spritz a small amount evenly through your hair on your no-shampoo days. You can add essential oils of your choice. I have borrowed liberally from Wellness Mama for this one.

Combine together in a spray bottle:

  1. 1 cup of lukewarm distilled water

  2. ¼ cup of witch hazel

  3. ¼ cup of arrowroot powder

Shake this stuff really well each time before you use it. Make sure it is all dissolved before trying to spray it, or the arrowroot will clog of the spray mechanism.

Have fun!
