Gadgets: Wink for Kindara

As many of our patients will attest, tracking your basal body temperature (BBT) by taking your oral temperature at exactly the same time every day, before getting out of bed, and tracking it properly can be a bit of a pain.  Often our patients will track for a little while but throw in the towel before long because it isn’t the easiest of tasks.

This week I came across something that could change the BBT charting game, making it much easier for you to track your menstrual cycles in order to get pregnant, avoid pregnancy, or simply track your cycles.  It’s called Wink, from the company that created the Kindara app for tracking cycles.

Wink is a Bluetooth-enabled oral thermometer that vibrates to alert you to take your temperature at the same time every day (no sound is made so it won’t wake up whoever you’re sleeping beside).  You simply roll over, put the thermometer under your tongue, and place it back in its case – Wink takes care of the rest, syncing your daily temp with your Kindara app.

Your BBT is a fairly reliable indicator of what part of your cycle you’re in, something that’s very useful for women trying to conceive (but also useful for women trying not to conceive).  It is a useful indicator of ovulation, telling you when you’re fertile and when you’re not.  Making BBT charting easy with automatic syncing takes most of the work out of the process, and ensures accurate readings taken on the same device, in the same way, and charted properly.

If you want to learn more about Wink, and how to get your hands on one, check out the website and video here.  You can pre-order your Wink for $79, once they’re out on the market they’ll retail for $129.

What a great idea!
