One of the most difficult times of the year to stay healthy is over the holidays. With so many gatherings and social events it's near impossible not to be surrounded by poor choices. To be honest, I really enjoy some of the poor choices as well. Some of these Rich foods have been a traditional part of my holidays ever since I can remember. I am not willing to say no to them all nor do I want too. The good news is there is a way to decrease the negative impact of this festive season.
I find the biggest problem is showing up to these dinners or lunches hungry. If you can show up with a stomach that is already half full of healthy foods you will eat less of the really bad foods and make better choices. So what can you eat that is quick, convenient and ads a hefty nutritional impact? Vegetable Soup! simple yes but very effective.
I love the idea of making a very large pot of soup at the beginning of the week and having a bowl or two before heading out to an event. I can load up on huge amounts of vegetables in a short period of time. Takes only a few minutes to heat up before heading out and is relatively easy. Bring some in a thermos and take to work to have before a luncheon. It is amazing how different you can feel if you follow this simple habit.
I hope you are able to try this simple holiday diet hack in the coming weeks and still enjoy the foods you love.
