2020 Health Check - What should you really be paying attention to in the New Year to benefit your health?

allison's picture
It’s that time of year where everyone is feeling pressured to start a new fad diet, an intense exercise regimen, or overhaul their entire morning routine. Although eating right and exercising are foundational pillars to good health, there are many other important factors to consider when checking where your health stands in the new year and revamping a healthy lifestyle.

First of all, I’m a big fan of getting regular blood work. Has it been a few years since you’ve had your iron or thyroid levels checked? Do you know where your cholesterol levels stand? Getting blood work done can give you a report card of the basics to know where you stand and pinpoint issues before they become major health concerns. This is why I recommend checking with a general practitioner or booking an appointment with one of our Naturopaths (who can also give you a requisition for said blood work) to see which things you should be keeping an eye on.

Our naturopaths or acupuncturists can also help optimize your supplement game to see which ones would benefit you the most for your specific health concerns. Looking to minimize menopause symptoms when the time comes? Or prevent arthritis your mother has or the high blood pressure that runs in your family? Regular supplementation or a series of nutrient IV’s can be extremely helpful in balancing hormones, aiding adrenal health, stabilizing blood sugar, and reducing systemic inflammation that can contribute to a ton of chronic illnesses down the road.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in my patients that are struggling with their health is that they put all of their trust and power to a single health care practitioner without voicing any questions or concerns they may have about their treatment protocol. At Acubalance your health concerns are heard with time and space for any questions you may have. We create a treatment protocol together, and if you aren’t getting the results you’d like, we do our best to modify it (add or change a treatment modality) to get the results we’re looking for. It’s crucial to know your options and learn about alternatives to treat your health concerns. One of the keys to our success is our integrative practice. We are a group of seven practitioners or doctors of traditional Chinese medicine, two naturopaths, and one registered nurse who practices mayan abdominal massage. We work together to figure out the best treatment plan for you.

Don’t forget the importance of other specialized doctors. January is the perfect time to book that appointment to get that mole checked, your teeth checked for cavities or gum disease, or that pap smear. Regular maintenance should never be ignored!

Preventive medicine is the truest medicine, where illness is prevented and your peak health potential is achieved and sustained. Coming in for monthly or seasonal tune-ups throughout the year can help boost energy levels, strengthen the immune system, promote healthy stress levels, and so much more.
