My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost a year now. A recent ultrasound revealed that I had 5 fibroids in my uterus, the largest about 8cm in diameter. My GP thought they might be interfering with my ability to conceive and has referred me to Genesis; I have an appointment there in a month.
All the treatments for fibroids (that I've read about) seem highly invasive and I'm wondering if TCM or acupuncture can help reduce the size of fibroids to improve fertility.
Thanks!

I have read that Chinese medicine can help with fibroids. But I have not seen it clinically for large fibroids. And I have not found any colleagues, and I know many from all this planet of ours who focus in Fertility, and none have said they confidently can treat large fibroids. Small ones yes but not large ones. I have been able to help minimize pain, and heavy bleeding using Chinese medicine (herbs, acupuncture and diet) though.
Genesis is an excellent centre so hopefully they can provide you with the best advice. Obviously surgery is risky, especially when you want to maintain your fertility.
I do think Chinese medicine has something to offer if surgery is what you require. If successful at balancing you r body and hormones, then hopefully it will prevent them from growing back or larger. Also, Chinese medicine (acupuncture, herbs and diet) can help prepare your body before and after surgery. The idea is to strengthen the Qi before the surgery and then promote blood flow and healing to help with overall surgery recovery.

I agree with Dr. Brown. Fibroids aren't easy to treat with western medicine nor TCM. While there are many different western medicine treatments for fibroids most prevent you from getting pregnant, except surgical treatments. I think combined treatment with TCM to regulate and lighten flow, potentially shrink small fibroids and then surgery for larger fibroids is a good approach.
The recommended treatment varies with the location and size of fibroids too. Some fibroids (e.g. 4 cm not near the uterine cavity) do not interfere with fertility. Treatment of fibroids it really individualized.
I hope this helps.
