About 3 months ago I lost a baby 22 weeks into my pregnancy and had to have a D & E. I've been charting my cycles since that time and have noticed that the time between when I ovulate and when I get my period has been either 9 or 10 days. We're starting to try again and I'm concerned that my short luteal phase will prevent me from getting pregnant. I have one child already and have not had short luteal phases in the past. What can I do to lengthen this phase?
Short luteal phase after D & E

Hello,
First I want to say that I am very sorry to hear about your loss. We had to terminate our pregnancy at 19 weeks and it was devestating. This was in the summer (I also had a d&e) so I am alittle further away from the experience than you are now. Before getting pregnant, I also had a short luteal phase and it can prevent pregnancy. My doctor put me on some medication that has really helped. I did get pregnant after my cycles were longer and more conducive to getting pregnant. Unfortunately, that pregnancy didn't work out. We are currently trying again (started after 3 mos. after the d&e). While my body seemed to be back to normal, I have had some cycles with no ovulation and getting my period only after 18 days- very frustrating. I think from the loss and trauma, I was stressing my body out more that I thought. I guess my point is that after every pregnancy, your body resets and what was "normal" for you can change including the pregnancies that are not full term. See your doctor because a short luteal phase can be fixed easily. I have also been going to acupunture regularly since September. I love it and I believe it's getting us closer to getting pregnant. I wish you luck and a very healthy next pregnancy. Cheryl
