Hi there,
Is it possible to take too much folic acid? My pre-natal provides 1 mg per day. I'm wondering about taking an additional 1 mg in a separate supplement as extra support but not if there's any chance it's detrimental.
Thanks!

This is a great question as there are new guidelines from our national association with regards to folic acid and dosing. The guidelines state that for most women, 1 mg is enough. There are groups of women who may benefit from more including women with a previously affected child or of east Indian descent. These women should probably take 5 mg. Therefore, it is safe for most women to take up to five milligrams a day although it is probably not necessary.
Hope this helps,

its very important to have all the nutrients at the required rates, its not good to have too much or too low, my daughter Susie used a pill called BioAstin and some new chapter vitamins for a few months to increase her calcium level, she was advised to take in a lot of milk, cheese like food to increase calcium, specially small fish but now even she is advised not to continue the bills, that is because too much of anything to not goo, even folic acid
