4 Do's For Dudes Wanting To Become Dads

November is here and MOvember is in full swing, so this feels like a great time to take a look at the relationship between men's health and fertility. In this blog, we'll discuss a few key things that guys can start doing right now to improve their chances of becoming a dad. Men are often told to focus on the things they need to STOP doing, things that they need to take out of their lives. I wanted to concentrate on what men CAN do. The fact is that most changes that improve our overall health will also significantly improve fertility potential.
Let's dive into some of the basics and examine what dudes can do to optimize their chances of becoming a dad.
Do Get a Good Sleep
Guys who get a good sleep are more likely to become a dad, simple as that. Getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night greatly increases your overall health while improving sperm quality. Men who sleep in a quiet bedroom will get better quality sleep and are often able to achieve a pregnancy much sooner than those who sleep in a noisy bedroom. Get a good quality 7 hour sleep (or more) to help boost your chances of becoming a dad.
Do Take Your Vitamins
Supplements can unquestionably add a needed boost to a man's ability to create better quality sperm. Just taking a pill is often much easier to implement into our daily lives than making changes to sleep habits or exercise. This is why supplements are one of my first recommendations to men who see me for treatment. It is important to know which supplements are best to take when attempting to improve sperm quality, so always consult with a professional before you begin taking anything on your own. Do Exercise Regularly
The idea that we need to move every day is a simple concept that few of us really make the time to do well. Daily exercise for at least 20-30 minutes has a multitude of health benefits. My general rule of thumb is that people who move for less than 20 minutes are just moving. Guys who move for more than 20 minutes in a row are exercising. The benefits of exercising more than 20 minutes versus only 15 are significant. We need to spend less time in front of a screen and more time looking after our physical needs.
Do Eat Your Veggies
Patients of mine know that I am a big advocate of treating fertility with diet. If a dude is able to make the necessary diet changes, I generally see a significant improvement over those dudes filling their plates with processed foods. A great rule of thumb for a good diet to follow; minimally processed foods, lots of vegetables and adequate water intake. You don't have to eat 'perfectly' either! Aiming to eat 70 - 80% of your meals with the rules in mind can allow you to have a little fun and "cheat" with the other 20-30%. This ratio will still lead to great results.
